After much preparation and many conversations the day finally arrived. The boys first day of school.
I covered and labeled books, bags, pencils, lunch boxes, shirts, shorts, shoes, just about anything that had the potential to be lost at school. underwear and socks escaped
They ready themselves in the morning and we left for school, with a stop for the obligatory first day photos.
In their new classroom they were happy and they gave us excited waves as Ewan and I left.
Ewan went to work and I came home to an empty house. Apart from the hum of the air conditioner (hottest day in 70 yrs) there was absolute silence.
For 5 years I have been dreaming of this occasion, dreaming of the time when I would have complete authority to do whatever I wanted without considering if i needed wipes, drinks, or if anyone needed the toilet before heading out. So what do I do to celebrate, I sat and edited photos from this morning and thought of the many times I had sat on that same couch with the boys safely under my wings breastfeeding them; of the mess they had made from the safety of their highchairs; of the many laps that Thomas the Tank Engine made on their tracks; of the many nights that I thought they were safely tucked up, asleep only to find them fast asleep behind the bedroom door.
Sitting in that silence I wanted to rewind the clock, relive all these moments and have them safely within hugging reach.
I am geniuenly excited about this new chapter in their lives and all that comes with it but sometimes I wish that we could return to simplier times when they would hang onto my every word.

The photo looks great !! ...
And the boys look excited ... I was thinking about you today enjoy your mornings :)
Don't you feel weird when you make them stop for photos.
Help me out here. I'm getting better at telling them apart but I'm not totally confident. Is Rowan shorter than Callum and is that Rowan in the top photo? That is a classic pose that is going to go down in history it's my favourite to date.
I often drive past these gates and thought they would make a nice backdrop. So I seized the opportunity this morning.
You're right. It actually doesn't even look like the Rowan I know. Callum at the moment doesn't want to have his photo taken and when I ask him to smile he does some weird fish-lips smile. I just can't get the boys interested in posing for photos.
Those are such cute pictures!!! I can't believe your boys are old enough to be in school. Time flies! How fun for them and relaxing for you. I would miss the noise too though.
