I went for a drive this week.  A little discovery mission.  Down dirt roads.

Luckily the roads here all run basically north/south and east/west.  So driving down roads, taking random lefts and rights doesn't tend to get you lost.  As long as you know the direction you came from you shouldn't have an issue finding your way home.

Also, as the land here in Sioux Falls is pretty flat, the tall water towers are a great reference point to head towards.

So the mission I was on was to find barns, and as it's only the start of crop season the fields are just tilled soil, so spotting barns from a distant is pretty easy.

This barn was a little hidden.  As I drove down the driveway, with the intention to knock on the door of the house that was next to it and ask if it was ok to take some pics, a red car pulled up behind me.  I immediately introduced myself and explained the reason I was trespasing!...."go ahead" was the friendly reply.

People here are so friendly, and I think the Aussie accent doesn't hurt.

So I snapped away a few pics.  I was quick, I didn't want to out stay my welcome.

The owner of the property couldn't tell me how old the barn was.  They bought the property 20 years ago and it was there then.

These majestic structures make my heart swoon, and the older the better.

What's not to LOVE about these structures...the weathered paint and wood...their idealic setting.

When I look at a barn it's almost as if it's looking back.  Those top windows are like eyes looking out over the land.  Guarding and protecting.
