Getting to know her, getting to know all about her

Let me just start off by saying....EVERY household with young children should have an 18 year old living with them. Now I know generally this is unpractical, it's not like you can go grab one off the street, and nanny's/au pair's are costly, but man-oh-man do they come in handy.

The kids and I; along with mum, Amy, Dee and kids; went to the airport to await the arrival of our house guest. Scanning the passengers as they came off the plane and up the ramp Emma was instantly recognisable by her bright red Cincinnati t-shirt. She was immediately welcomed with hugs and kisses.

Before we even reached home Ailish and Emma bonded over High School Musical and she offered to look after the kids at any time, realising that she was probably jet lagged from 23 odd hours of flying I took full advantage of this offer.

Emma has just fitted into our family beautifully. She shares our interest in movies & music, her personality just fits perfectly with ours and she loves to stir the kids up.

Things I know about Emma:
  • she is 18
  • doesn't have a middle name
  • is studying to be a history teacher
  • likes pop music, not rap
  • loves the musical theatre play Wicked
  • doesn't really like scary things, Harry Potter excluded, but bravely vacuumed up a black spider
  • enjoys reading
  • dearly loves her family
  • is open to new experiences - places, food
  • is scared of heights
  • likes the beach, but lives 15 hours away from one
  • worked at Hallmark before coming out
  • doesn't really like milk
  • likes white chocolate
  • is a little accident prone - for my sake and hers I think I'll wait a little while before I get her driving
  • holds the world record for the quickest change into comfy clothing/pj's
  • is kind and generous
  • is more than happy to pitch in - whether it's doing the dishes, cooking dinner or looking after the kids
  • burps - but I'm not meant to know this

The past week the kids have been on school holidays, Ewan's been in Melbourne and I've been working. I've been able to survive this week thanks to family and Emma - she looked after the kids on Wednesday and then stayed home with a sick Ailish on Thursday, she also cooked a lovely dinner for us on Thursday.

It's going to be an absolute pleasure to have her living with us for the next 6 months.

Yeah for Em and for you! What lovely photos, I got a little teared up just seeing her face.

Her ability to change into comfy clothes is absolutely amazing however.

Hey Kristie & Family,
Thank you for posting the awesome pictures of Emma! The water looks soooo blue! We'd like some tips from you on photography, the photos look sweet.

We can't wait to meet all of you and hang out with our family in the land down under. Shelley has been working with lil' Sophie on saying "Koala" & "Kangaroo" =)

17 days and counting...
