The knee bones connected to the...??

Every now and then the kids play "who loves....????" (enter someones name) and you have to put your hand up and then it turns to "who loves...????..the MOST" and then you have to put two hands up. And as a parent you wouldn't dream of choosing one of the kids over the other, or admitting that you would. But just recently I was kind of forced into such a situation where I have to chose boys or girl!

You see the kids all had school excursions today. Why!? There are approximately 200 school days in a year so what were the chances of both classes choosing the same day.

The boys were going to walk up and down one of the main tourist strips nearby and visit the local butcher, baker, post office, tourist informaton centre etc.

Ailish was off to visit the nursing labs at one of the universities and learn about the body; look at skeletons, look into microscopes at blood cells etc.

The boys excursion I had done previously when Ailish was their age, and I am in their class on friday mornings helping with reading and writing, so I chose to assist with Ailish's class because 1. I don't do a lot with her class, and 2. it sounded more fun.

Her class has been learning about the body this term so the group was divided into 6 groups and each group would rotate through the 6 mini classes that were organised.

The classes were:

The kids just loved the whole hands on thing, and I have to admit so did I. It was so good for the kids to get out of their classroom and feel, touch and see the things they had been learning about. Amazingly, so many of them knew the names of different bones and they all had such good questions for each presenter.

This baby is called the "shaken baby" because if you shake it (and you never should) you get to see the brain bobble around.

These skeletons were in a corner and they just cracked me up because it looks like one is whispering to the other.

And the boys enjoyed their excursion. They came home with stickers, postcards and stamps; and stories about the cow hanging in the butcher and the chocolate donut they got to eat.
